Shell cameo in an 800 silver filigree mount, designed as a brooch or pendant, 13 g, 6 × 3.5 cm, France, antique style, no laboratory report.
Description from the seller
Large Shell Cameo Brooch / Pendant in 800 Silver Filigree Mount – Hand Carved – Early 20th Century
An elegant and finely hand-carved shell cameo mounted in an ornate 800 silver filigree frame, designed to be worn both as a brooch and as a pendant.
The cameo depicts the graceful profile of a young lady with beautifully flowing hair, wearing a classical drop earring and holding delicate blossoms. The warm natural layers of the shell have been expertly carved to create remarkable depth and contrast between the creamy white portrait and the rich brown background.
The finely crafted silver mount features intricate openwork filigree decoration. Filigree is a traditional silversmithing technique in which extremely fine silver wires are twisted and soldered together to create lace-like ornamental patterns. This refined craftsmanship perfectly complements the elegance of the cameo.
The reverse is fitted with both a brooch pin and a suspension loop, allowing the piece to be worn either as a pendant or as a brooch.
Condition
Good antique condition with normal signs of age and use. The cameo displays a beautiful natural patina. It has not been aggressively cleaned to preserve the original surface and avoid any risk of damaging the delicate shell carving. Please study the photographs carefully as they form part of the description.
Dimensions
Height: approximately 6 cm
Width: approximately 3.5 cm
Weight: approximately 13 grams
A refined collector's piece and an elegant example of traditional shell carving combined with delicate silver filigree craftsmanship. Equally suitable for collectors of antique jewellery, Art Nouveau decorative arts and wearable antiques.
Catawiki smart shipping services, insured and well packed.
