高さのある六曲屏風で、狩野派風の画法による絵画と、金箔地に墨絵で描かれた広大な中国風景が描かれています。

A tall six-panel Japanese folding screen 屏風 (byôbu) with a Kanô School-style painting an extensive Chinese-style landscape painted in ink 墨絵 (sumi-e) on a gold-leaf ground.

The composition is concentrated mainly across the lower part of the screen, leaving a broad expanse of shimmering gold above. Dramatic, steep rock formations rise from the landscape, with a pagoda nestled at the foot of a towering cliff. Among the mountains and waterways are small settlements, trees and winding paths. Tiny figures crossing a bridge and a fisherman's boat introduce subtle signs of human activity within the monumental scenery.

Signed and sealed in the lower left ‘Bokushinsai hitsu’ 牧心斎筆. Bokushinsai was one of the art names associated with Kanô Yasunobu 狩野安信. The signature should not, however, be taken as an attribution to Yasunobu himself; this screen is a later work executed in homage to the artist and the Kanô tradition.

Height: 177 cm, Total width 378 cm (2x 64.5 cm, and 4x 62.2 cm).

In very good restored condition with traces of age on both sides, including a restoration along the left hinge. The gold-leaf ground shows some expected variations, marks and signs of age. Please refer to the photographs for a clear impression of the condition.

The folding screen is well suited for mounting flat on a wall as a decorative work of art, but can also be displayed as a standalone piece.
