DESCRIPTION:
Observations: この巨大な Thalassotitan atrox は、既知のモササウルの中でも最大級の種の一つです（旧称 Prognathodon sp）。歯は極めて良好な保存状態で、エナメル質の品質は美しいカラメル色のグラデーションによって極めて高いです。
これらの歯は完全に根付いています。ところが発掘時に歯冠が折れて根と分離しました。その後、標本は歯を接着・補填して冠を根に再接着する restoration が施されています。現状、他の補修は見られません。
この標本のもう一つの非常に興味深い点は、根の内部に胚生の置換歯孔が見えることです。モササウルは、サメや陸上の恐竜と同様、生涯を通じて歯を絶えず交換します。歯が擦り減り始めると、下から新しい歯が成長してそれを置換します。ここには素晴らしい例が見られます。
Diagnosis: 大型モササウル類、前上顎骨先端は短く鈍い。前上顎骨と上顎骨の間は咬合接触。上顎骨は深く、腹側縁は凸。上顎骨と前前頭骨の間には、舌と溝の結合様式の連結ジョイントが連続して形成され、ジョイントの縁が互いに噛み合う。前頭骨は広く前頭葉へ重なる。前頭後軟部は前眼窩縁を frontal から除外。前頭は短く幅広く、前方へ強く狭まっており、頭頂葉の前側と接触するときに強く凹んでいる。独立する後眼窩突起は前方へ移動。後頭部のプロセスは大きく、頭頂孔を包み込むように後内側へ広がる。頬骨は上顎骨と接触する際に広く頑健。顎骨は巨大で、帯状の軸部分の下に瘤状の上・下方連結突起を有する。歯冠には先端の網状装飾と前後の鋸状歯冠が特徴的な ornamentation が見られる。
