Wassily Kandinsky was a Russian artist whose vibrant abstract paintings paved the way for Non-Objective Art. In an effort to step outside pictorial tradition, Kandinsky often described color as sound, with several of his most famous works titled using musical terminology, including Improvisation 28 (1912) and Composition VII (1913). “Color directly influences the soul. Color is the keyboard, the eyes are the hammers, the soul is the piano with many strings,” he wrote in his book Concerning the Spiritual in Art (1911).

カンディンスキーは、非具象美術の道を切り開いたロシア出身の画家です。画題の伝統を超えようとする試みの中で、彼は色を音として説明することが多く、最も有名な作品の多くに音楽用語が用いられたタイトルが付けられています。たとえば Improvisation 28 (1912) および Composition VII (1913) などです。彼は著書『Concerning the Spiritual in Art（芸術における精神性について）』(1911) の中で「色は心に直接影響を与える。色は鍵盤で、目はハンマー、心は多くの弦を持つピアノだ」と記しています。
