吉本井 義道 Fujimoto Yoshimichi による鉄釉彩の水指（茶道の水指）で、後に iro-e jiki（色絵磁器）の重要無形文化財保持者に designation された。暖かいクリーム色の地に、鉄の顔料を大胆な水平筆致で走らせ、そのリズムと自信は、後に世界的に名高い磁器の鳥の絵を生み出す際の、磁器と筆致の卓越した支配ぶりを示唆している。蓋にはブロンズの取っ手が付けられ、静かだが確かな威厳を持つ完成品となっている。木製の収納箱には、藤本氏の弟子であり、東京藝術大学大学院での指導教官として彼の作例に精通する広瀬佳之によって署名・鑑定が施されており、藤本本人の初期箱ではない。

吉本井 義道 Fujimoto Yoshimichi（1919-1992）は、20世紀日本の陶芸を代表する巨匠の一人である。東京生まれ。東京美術学校デザイン科を卒業後、富本象山（Kenkichi Tomimoto）と加藤始（Hajime Kato）両氏に師事し、久田由来の色絵磁器の伝統を吸収した。長く革新的な活動を続け、独自の「由俟・花采（ゆびょう・かさい）」技法を開発。微妙に階調をつけた自家混成の顔料を用い、鳥やその他のモチーフを絵画的な奥行きと量感で表現するという、従来の色絵の平面的な原色の常識からの大きな飛躍を遂げた。1970年に東京藝術大学の教授となり、1985年には同大学の学長を務めた初の工芸作家である。1986年には iro-e jiki の重要無形文化財保持者として designation された。藤本は1992年、73歳で没。藤本の作品は現在、生産されていない。これは限定的な作家の遺産である。
