Description from the seller

Royal Copenhagen miniature swallow vase or toothpick holder

A tiny Royal Copenhagen porcelain vessel painted with swallows skimming across an open coastal landscape. Windswept grasses fill the foreground, fading into pale dunes and a hazy blue-grey horizon. Turn it around and two more distant birds continue the scene.

Its gently flattened shape gives the decorator just enough room to create the impression of a much larger landscape. The result is a rather lovely little glimpse of the Danish coast—quiet, breezy and unexpectedly detailed for something small enough to sit in the palm of your hand.

Royal Copenhagen has produced porcelain in Denmark since 1775. The factory became particularly admired for its naturalistic underglaze painting, in which birds, plants and landscapes were rendered through softly blended blues, greys and earth tones.
