南イタリア系ギリシャの黒釉ミニアチュア水壺
マグナ・グラエキア、推定プーリア
紀元前4世紀後半
低いリング基部の上に球状の胴を乗せ、短い円筒首と広い口を持つ土器製のミニアチュア水壺。上部には元の黒釉の痕跡が広く残されており、下部胴はほぼ露出している。
本容器は元来、ギリシャ水壺に特徴的な三つのハンドル配置を備えていた。胴の両側に対称に水平ハンドル二本、肩から縁へと伸びる垂直ハンドル一本である。垂直ハンドルは保存されているが、水平ハンドル二本は欠損し、取り付け部が胴の側面に明瞭に残っている。
極めて小型であることから、本品はミニアチュア水壺と同定される。後期古典期および初期ヘレニズム期の南イタリアのギリシャ人共同体でよく確認されるカテゴリーである。ミニアチュア水壺は特に葬送儀礼・奉納的文脈と関連づけられる。後の4世紀前半のアプリアには、南イタリア産のミニアチュア水壺の関連系統が文献として記録されている。
