琥珀は古くから人類とともに歩んできました。それは化石化した樹脂で、2百万年から5000万年前に形成されたものです。琥珀のアンモレットはヨーロッパ各地の新石器時代の遺跡で見つかります。例えばエジプトでは紀元前2600年ごろの琥珀の装飾品が見つかっています。琥珀の英名“amber”はアラビア語の“anbar”に由来し、意味は「香り高い物質」という意味です。
