この vase は、明治後期の Ko-Imari 備前藍と白磁の伝統に属する大きなアンティーク日本の花瓶です。
花瓶には日本の antique 風の地図が描かれており、国内の歴史的な州（くに）それぞれが独立した浮き彫りの不規則な枠（カルトゥーシュ）として表現され、下絵付けの藍で名称が表示されています。
これらの浮き彫りの区画が集まって、日本列島の全体の輪郭を形成し、花瓶の丸みを帯びた胴体を回り、小さな離島の佐渡のようなものも独自の楕円形の枠で示されています。
この作品を特に印象的にしているのは、地図が単なる平描きではない点です。州境は立ち上がって不揃いであり、全体の表面に明確な三次元的・彫刻的・ほぼ石畳のような質感を与え、見るだけでなく触れて感じることができます。
高さのある広がりのある首と胴部の海域には、力強いスタイライズド・ウェーブ模様が施されており、Ko-Imari の伝統的なデザイン要素の典型です。

Production は17世紀初頭に始まり、朝鮮の陶工が磁器技法をこの地域にもたらし、ここで見られるような藍下絵付け（ sometsuke ）の装飾がこの磁器の最初で最も長く続いたスタイルとなりました。
この特定のデザインは、個々の州から構成される日本全図を示すもので、境界線を別々に成形してから地図の詳細と地名を藍で描くという、技術的に難易度の高いモチーフです。
