コンゴ共和国のカサイ地域、サランパスの原産とされる古代のショートソード。この作品は19世紀末頃のものと推定されます。
剣全長は約52 cm、刃長は43 cm。刃自体は特徴的な幅広い葉形で、中央の剣脈が目立ちます。錬金職人の技と年季がはっきりと分かる風合いで、特徴的なハンマーマークと美しい暗い経年錆が見て取れます。
真の見どころは付属の木製鞘です。ほぼ全体が、ぎっしり相接して並ぶ、鋭い金属バンドで覆われており、バンドが多いほど豊かさを感じさせます。
前面と背面には隆起した中央の棟があり、古い芯材の釘で密着して張られています。背面には運搬用の紐用穴も元の状態のまま残っています。トライバル・アートに詳しい人なら、このような状態でこの鞘を見つけるのはどれだけ珍しいかを知っています—この結束は非常に丈夫です。砂時計型の木製グリップも、金属バンドと装飾釘で飾られています。
