清水宇一による格式ある大甚汁石調水壺（mizusashi）は、琵琶湖畔の法雷窯で制作されました。丸みを帯びた大ぶりの形状は、濃厚で滴る灰釉に仕上げられており、灰色、青灰色、暖かな錆色へと表情を変え、 surface に見える鉄分を含む法雷窯の土が透けて現れるのが特徴的で、清水の成熟した作風を象徴する効果です。作品には作家自筆の元の tomobako 保存箱が付属します。
【作家プロフィール】
清水宇一（1926–2004）は、東山・五条坂地区の京都の陶磁器問屋の家に生まれ、1940年に石黒宗麿に師事し、1945年に京都で独立したスタジオを開きました。1958年にはブリュッセル万国博覧会でグランプリを受賞し、国際的な評価を得ます。1970年には滋賀県・琵琶湖畔の蓬莱山の麓に法雷窯を築き、地元の土・鉱物を活かして鉄釉技法を確立しました。1985年には鉄釉陶器（Tetsuyu Toki）で重要無形文化財保持者に認定され、1986年には紫綬褒章を受章しました。日本工芸会の陶芸部門の会長を務め、戦後日本の陶芸家の中でも最も著名な一人として現在も評価されています。
