Chinese pale celadon nephrite jade belt hook, monkey -China- 20th Century
 
On offer is a rare Chinese pale celadon nephrite jade belt hook with an unusual design. The carving consists of a horse and monkey on top of the belt hook. The underside of the shaft has a flat button. The jade has a beautiful glossy finish and good translucence and feels therefore soft on the touch. Hard to find and offered with no reserve price!
 
The symbolism of a monkey and horse has a special cultural meaning. The Monkey sitting on a Horse in Chinese reads (马上封候) "Ma Shang Feng Ho" which sounds like "Promotion is fast approaching". The Monkey is considered as a symbol of the Clever and Creative Individual and the Horse as a symbol of Speed, Strength, Success and a Steady Path. 
 
Has been identified as nephrite jade by measuring thermal conductivity and hardness and translucency. Also checked with UV light; which indicates a natural color. Provenance: This jade comes from inland China. a remarkable jade, very suitable as an addition to your high-end collection or to present as a gift! Please see test results and pictures.
