ドミニカ共和国産の精巧に彫られたタイノ族の儀式用斧で、紀元後10世紀から15世紀にさかのぼる。暗色の石で彫刻され、頂部には高度にデフォルメされた猿類的な人間形像が載っている。上部は突き出た吻部を伴う造形が丁寧に作られており、頭蓋は丸みを帯び、胴は引き締まっている一方、側面には同心円状に配置された深く刻まれた幾何学模様が刻まれている。長く磨き上げられた下部は柄状の延長部を形成している。表面には鉱物の結晶化物や土質沈着物が保存され、長期埋蔵の痕跡が見られるが、石の多くには滑らかな研磨仕上げが保たれている。
