宝石のように彩られた漆の茶入れには、七福神が金箔細堅の蒔絵で描かれています。
櫛室（九室） technique による漆を重ね塗りする kyushitsu 技法で作られた—ヘラと筆で丁寧に層を重ねる難技—この夏目風の茶入れは、黒地の上に暖かく透ける赤を下地に、壇上には本体周りに七福神（恵比寿、大黒天、毘沙門天、弁財天、福禄寿、寿老人、布袋尊）を繊細な金の蒔絵で描いています。光沢のある落ち着いた色合いと細かな線描は、古典的な漆技法への長年の修練と茶道の経験が組み合わさった中村の基盤を示しています。
【作家略歴】
中村聖一（1932年生）は石川県出身の漆芸家で、14歳の時から父の下で九室漆を学び始めました。その後、佐和中尾の僧侶から茶道の指導を受け、1980年代を通じて国民漆器展で数多くの受賞作を発表しました。1987年に茶名「宗敬」、1992年に茶道科准教授として評価されました。彼の作品は夏目・茶入・香筒など茶室の道具を中心に、真塗りや加賀蒔絵といった伝統的技法を、洗練された自然を感じさせる感性と結びつけたものです。
