The inscription ΑΓΟΡΟΥ (Agorou) most likely means “of Agoros,” a personal name in the Greek genitive case, indicating ownership or association. Such inscriptions on ancient Greek lead sling bullets could identify the commander under whose authority the ammunition was issued. The identity and role of the individual named here remain uncertain.

Greek lead sling bullets were widely used from the Classical through Hellenistic periods as compact projectiles for slingers serving in civic armies and mercenary forces. Their almond-shaped form improved flight and impact, while inscriptions or symbols could identify units, commanders, cities, or carry taunts against the enemy. Surviving examples offer direct evidence for ancient warfare, military organization and battlefield culture.
