Prehnite is usually pale green to yellowish-green, although white or colorless varieties can occur. It vitrifies to a lustrous, slightly pearly luster, and is usually translucent. It rates 6–6.5 on the Mohs hardness scale, making it durable enough for jewelry use. Its characteristic feature is its botryoidal (grape-cell) formation, although well-shaped crystals also exist. It is often associated with epidote, creating dark inclusions in the soft green matrix.
