Various unattributed makers - 人形 Sosaku Kokeshi Set of 18 - Japan

Item Description
This lot comprises 18 "creative kokeshi" (sosaku kokeshi), a style that developed alongside traditional kokeshi during the 20th century. Each piece is lathe-turned from wood and hand-painted, featuring floral motifs, geometric band patterns, and hand-painted facial expressions on rounded heads and cylindrical bodies. No two pieces in the set are identical, and a wide variety of painting styles, colour schemes, and proportions is evident, reflecting differences in maker and workshop.

As can be seen in the images, several pieces bear ink-brush inscriptions on the base, believed to be the artist's signature. No detailed research or authentication has been carried out on individual inscriptions, so please refer to the images before placing a bid.

Only light cleaning has been performed; surface scuffs, soiling, and fading consistent with age and use are present as shown in the images. No box or other accessories are included.

Dimensions
The largest piece measures approximately 30 cm in height, with a body diameter of approximately 8 cm.

Weight
3,702 g (combined total weight of all 18 pieces)

Condition
General surface scuffing and minor soiling consistent with age and handling are present; however, no significant damage such as cracks or losses has been observed upon visual inspection. Only light cleaning has been carried out; no restoration or repairs have been performed.
