charm ing and uncommon late-Victorian child’s folding chair, most likely English and dating to circa 1880–1900. Constructed from dark-stained beech, it features shaped arms, ball finials and five decorative turned spindles across the back. The ingenious pivoted frame remains operational and folds almost completely flat for convenient storage or transport. Measuring 62 cm high, the chair retains its early woven canvas seat, believed to be original. It is presented in unrestored antique condition with a wonderful aged patina, wear and marks consistent with its age. The canvas is worn, stained and perforated, while the wooden frame displays evidence of historic woodworm which has been successfully treated and is inactive. Owing to the fragile condition of the original canvas, the chair is offered as a decorative collector’s piece rather than for use as functional children’s seating.
