Exhibition catalogue accompanying Tadao Ando: Early Architectural Drawings – Independence and Dialogue, held at the National Archives of Modern Architecture, Agency for Cultural Affairs, Japan, in 2019.

This richly illustrated publication focuses on Tadao Ando's early architectural practice through original architectural drawings, sketches, plans, elevations, perspectives, models, and photographs. Rather than presenting only completed buildings, the catalogue offers an insight into Ando's design process and the development of his distinctive architectural language.

The exhibition covered approximately 25 architectural projects, including some of Ando's best-known early works such as Row House in Sumiyoshi (Azuma House), Koshino House, Rokko Housing, TIME'S I, Church on the Water, and Church of the Light.
The publication also includes essays examining Ando's early architectural drawings, the relationship between words, drawings and completed works, and his approach to architecture.
