イニシエーション・マスク - DR Congo

中央アフリカ共和国の木製マガニ/バビンジの仮面（19世紀後半〜20世紀初頭作）。仮面は強く彫刻され、曲面の本体に沿って丸みを帯びたボリュームが際立つ。典型的なのは、丸い目と細長いコーヒー豆形の裂け目、そして白色のカオリン塗料の使用である。口も突き出し、曲線を描き、白く塗られた高浮彫りの歯が並ぶ。耳は抽象的で平面的な台形の突起である。 Distinctive as well as very unusual is the abstract, prominent, perhaps phallic, nose which projects but does not join the forehead at the top. → 抽象的で突出しており、おそらく陰茎状の鼻は前方へ突き出るが、額の上部とはつながっていない点が特徴的で非常に珍しい。 The mask is in good condition with a dark brown patina. The top inside is the only area where the surface has been lost, probably due to the old woodworm. This cannot be seen from the front or sides. → 仮面は良好な状態で、濃い茶色のパティナを有する。内部の上部だけが表面を失っているのは唯一の欠損箇所で、恐らく古い木材成虫によるもの。正面や側面からは見えない。 Height: 31.5 cm
