卓越したアフリカの名品儀式用斧で、伝統的には Kilonda として知られ、コンゴ民主共和国のクバ族（Bakuba）に起源を持つ。
この精巧に作られた地位を表す武器は、手作業で打たれた三日月形の金属刃と三つの特徴的な透かし連結突起を備える。刃の中央部は両面に見事に彫刻されており、古典的な組み合わさった幾何学的籠細工モチーフ（sgraffito様式）を特徴としており、クバ王室・貴族の宮廷美術に極めて特長的である。
丈夫な木製の柄は、上部全体が緻密に巻かれた、浮き彫り風の銅製または真鍮製のワイヤー巻きで覆われ、複雑な質感を生み出し、伝統的な鍛冶職人の技量を示している。こうした斧は戦闘用として作られたものではなく、儀式行事と王族の行列の場で部族の長老や高官が握る、権威・位階・富の象徴として用いられた。
