Description from the seller

Antique Art Nouveau / Liberty Side Chair – Italy, circa 1900–1910

Elegant Italian Art Nouveau (Stile Liberty) side chair, dating to the early 20th century, circa 1900–1910.

The chair features a finely shaped dark-stained hardwood frame, likely walnut, with an unusually brass/copper inlay decorative construction. The tall, slightly curved back is centred by an upholstered panel and framed by elongated uprights with subtly raised terminals. The side supports and apron are embellished with brass cooper- contrasting mother-of-pearl petal delicate floral and foliate inlay, including stylised stems, leaves and small floral motifs, creating a characteristic Liberty aesthetic.

The seat and upper back are upholstered in a period-style pink patterned textile, bordered with decorative braid. The back incorporates three slender turned/slightly carved vertical splats beneath the upholstered panel. The front legs are elegantly tapered, while the side elements have softly curved profiles.

The overall design combines organic Art Nouveau lines, floral ornamentation and restrained geometric construction, typical of high-quality Italian furniture from the Liberty period.

Condition: Good antique condition, with signs of age and use consistent with its period; upholstery shows some age-related wear. Please refer to photographs for details.

A particularly charming and decorative example of early Italian Liberty furniture, suitable as an accent chair, bedroom chair or collector’s piece.
