AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Item Description
A hand-painted Japanese hanging scroll (kakejiku) on silk, titled "Musha no Zu" (Figure of a Warrior), by Higaki Asami. The composition depicts an armoured general astride a dynamic horse, carrying a bow and bearing a quiver of arrows on his back. The armour is rendered in fine detail using red, gold, white, and grey pigments, while the horse is expressed in soft gradations of olive brown. In the background, Mount Fuji with its snow-capped peak peeks through the clouds against a warm, golden-toned ground. The artist's signature "Asami" and a red seal appear at the lower left of the composition.

Such warrior paintings (musha-e) are traditionally displayed in early May for Tango no Sekku (the Boys' Festival, now celebrated as Children's Day), with the wish for boys to grow up healthy and strong. The scroll is mounted with a greenish-gold brocade fabric, and the roller ends (jikusaki) are made of dark-coloured wood. A matching wooden box (tomobako) and an outer box are included.

Height: 187.5 cm
Width: 59 cm

This is a used item. There are minor, unobtrusive small stains and soiling on the silk, but no significant damage is apparent. As is inherent to the nature of antique paintings and calligraphy, some degree of creasing, staining, and foxing may be present. Please examine the photographs carefully.
