希少な大理石模様の粘土花瓶、松井康成人間国宝の作。作家の署名のショーレツ技法を、コンパクトで立体的な造形に示しています。
表面は柔らかな灰色とベージュのトーンの層状粘土で構成され、胴部を螺旋状に回る細かな斜線の筋が刻まれ、やがて細い首へと絞られます。この「ショーレツ（裂紋）」は松井自身が開発した技法で、粘土の表面を櫛状に整えることで焼成時に自然に亀裂が生じるようにするもの。日本の陶芸通の間で瞬時に識別できる、彼の作業に特有の技法です。結果は有機的でありながら意図性を感じさせ、静かで重厚な存在感があり、近くで見るほど魅力が増します。
松井康成の作品は、京都国立近代美術館、茨城県陶芸美術館など、主要な公的コレクションに所蔵されています。2003年に没したため、本作は限定的な作家の遺作であり、以後生産はありません。
