Description from the seller
Polished Albian Nautilus Fossil – Exposed Internal Chambers and Natural Mineralization – Cretaceous
A beautiful fossil nautilus from the Albian stage of the Early Cretaceous period, approximately 113–100 million years ago, distinguished by its elegant spiral geometry and fascinating internal chamber structure.
The specimen displays a rich combination of chocolate brown, amber, ochre, smoky grey, and warm golden tones, crossed by contrasting cream-colored mineral veins. Its polished surface beautifully reveals the internal septa radiating from the central spiral, creating a striking natural pattern reminiscent of a delicate fan.
Particularly attractive is the contrast between the darker mineralized chambers and the lighter calcite-rich divisions, which emphasize the complex internal architecture of the ancient shell. Some sections reveal textured crystalline and mineral-filled areas, adding depth and geological interest.
The reverse side presents a different arrangement of fossilized structures, including warm amber-colored mineralization, natural fractures, and contrasting pale sections. A carefully prepared area exposes the internal chamber material, offering an additional perspective on the fossil's preservation.
The smooth polished finish enhances the natural colors and patterns, while the distinctive pointed outer whorl gives the specimen an elegant sculptural appearance.
Nautiloids are ancient marine cephalopods whose chambered shells provide a fascinating record of prehistoric ocean life. Their characteristic internal structures make them particularly appreciated by fossil collectors and natural history enthusiasts.
The specimen is supplied with the clear acrylic display stand shown in the photographs.
An attractive fossil combining geological history, intricate natural architecture, and refined decorative appeal, ideal for paleontological collections or an elegant cabinet of curiosities.
