Description from the seller
17世紀のリヨン版という Monumental な版で、非常に良好な保存状態を保つこの作品は、トマス・アクィナスの有名な神学要約(Summa Theologiae)を2巻本の全羊皮装丁で綴じたものです。
S. THOMAE AQUINATIS SUMMA TOTIUS THEOLOGIAE
In tres partes ab auctore suo distributa. Editio nouissima, in qua praestitum quid sit, sequenti pagella indicatur.
Lugduni [Lyon], sumptibus Io. Phillionti, sub signo Nominis Jesu.
6 ff.n.ch. 216, 220 pp. + 7 ff.n.ch. et 341 pp. ; 6 ff.n.ch. et 208 pp. + 184 pp. et 75 ff.n.ch.
Complete in 2 volumes in-folio bound in full brown mottled calf of the period, spine with raised bands adorned with gilded panels and rosettes, title labels in light brown morocco and volume labels in green (Vol. I and II). Bound in very good condition. Some wear on the boards.
The interior features a two-column impression on laid paper, opening to a superb engraved architectural frontispiece in an intaglio print with allegorical figures and the portrait of Saint Thomas Aquinas, detailed indexes, as well as splendid borders and illuminated initials. The work ends with a colophon and a final inscription. Beautifully preserved. Slight staining of the paper. Some sheets with old restorations.
Saint Thomas Aquinas (1225–1274), nicknamed the Angelic Doctor, marked the history of Christian thought by writing the Summa Theologiae, a masterwork of scholasticism that synthesizes Christian theology and Aristotle’s philosophy. This magnificent Lyon edition attests to the diffusion and importance of Thomist thought in ecclesiastical and scholarly libraries of the modern era.
Superbe exemplaire.
