Exceptional Historicist - 茶こし - およそ1870年頃–1880年頃

unusually fine and richly worked Historicist tea strainer, dating from approximately 1870–1880.
The large 9 cm strainer features an elaborate symmetrical openwork design with a central trophy medallion, sculptural floral details and a twisted outer border. The openwork floral handle is equally finely executed.
Silver-plated copper-based alloy, showing traces of traditional hand-working, including piercing, hammering/repoussé and chasing. The quality of execution is considerably above that of typical mass-produced silver-plated tableware of the period.
No maker's mark identified. From the estate of a German antiques dealer.
