典型的な形で、セピオライト（ミアースシャム）で作られ、長い房をつけたフェズ帽を被る髭面のトルコのパシャの頭部に彫刻され、ねじ込み式のアンバー色のマウスピースを備える。

ミアースシャムパイプは、19世紀を通じてオスマン帝国と西洋との間で活発化した商業・美術交流を体現している。材料であるセピオライト、ドイツ語でのMeerschaum（海の泡）と呼ばれるこの物質は、黒海でしばしば浮遊して見つかり、トルコの漁師によって捕られた。 dried and roughly carved Turkish Meerschaum products would then enter the mercantile routes towards Europe and often end in manufacturing centres of renowned fame, such as Vienna. Sadly, the Austrian production terminated in the 1970s, when Turkey banned the exportation of Meerschaum nodules, trying to set up and foster an exclusive localised industry. The once famous manufacturers have since disappeared and European pipe producers turned to other sources for their pipes.
