美しい古代ローマのテラコッタの壺で、ローマ帝政時代に遡る紀元1世紀から3世紀頃のものです。
この優雅な器は丸みを帯びた胴体、張り出した首と縁、そして縁から肩へと伸びる特徴的なねじれハンドルを特徴としています。
表面には深い赤褐色の仕上げが見られ、肩と胴の周りには細かな水平の刻線が施されています。ねじれハンドルは、器の素朴で調和のとれた形に特に魅力的な装飾要素を加えています。
この壺には表面の付着物や摩耗の痕跡、元の赤みがかった仕上げの痕跡が残っており、その出自の古さと一致します。
この種の器はローマ世界全体で、液体（水やワインを含む）の保存・提供・注ぐために用いられていました。
