Rajidae spp. | Skate

Living close to the seafloor, skates have a flat body and wide, wing-like pectoral fins that help them glide over the ocean floor.
This transparent specimen reveals the delicate internal structure of the body, with the long tail and fine details of the skeleton clearly visible.
The soft blue, yellow and red tones created during the specimen-making process give it an almost underwater, dreamlike appearance.
