Description from the seller
Delft Bible of 1477 – Magnificent Complete Facsimile Edition – 2 Volumes – 1977 – Mint Condition
A magnificent, complete facsimile edition of one of the most important monuments in the history of Dutch printing: the Delft Bible of 1477.
The original Delft Bible was printed on 10 January 1477 by Jacob Jacobszoon van der Meer and Mauricius Yemantszoon van Middelborch in Delft, the Netherlands.
It is regarded as the first substantial book printed in the Dutch language and represents a landmark in the history of European typography and vernacular Bible translation.
The original edition is believed to have been printed in approximately 250 copies, of which only around 50 surviving examples are known worldwide.
This beautifully produced facsimile was published in 1977 to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the original edition.
The 1977 Jubilee Edition
Published by Buijten & Schipperheijn / Repro-Holland, Amsterdam and Alphen aan den Rijn.
The edition faithfully reproduces the original 15th-century printing, including its magnificent Gothic typography, decorated initials and characteristic red rubrication.
The reproduction was produced photographically and printed on high-quality laid paper.
The two substantial volumes are attractively bound in brown, leather-textured bindings with gilt lettering and decorative lines on the spines.
Both volumes are housed in their original matching protective slipcase.
Complete with Original Accompanying Material
This exceptional set includes:
- Both volumes of the facsimile Bible.
- The original protective slipcase.
- The separate historical introduction, De Delftse Bijbel in het Licht der Historie, by Prof. Dr. C.C. de Bruin.

- The special Dutch postage stamp issued for the 500th anniversary of the Delft Bible, postmarked 8 March 1977.
The historical introduction provides valuable information about the original printing and its importance in Dutch cultural and religious history.

Complete and in virtually mint condition.
