Description from the seller

ジョアン・ミロ:La Dame aux damiers(1969)

Original colour lithograph printed directly on red and white checked cloth. This impression has never been laid down on paper and remains in its original, unmounted state, with untrimmed, frayed edges; the reverse is clean, with the natural show-through of the printing ink (see photos). Printed by Arte Adrien Maeght and published by Maeght Éditeur, Paris, in 1969. It is one of the few lithographs in Miró’s work printed on a textile rather than on paper.

Edition of 75 signed and numbered impressions. This impression: [No. XX/75 — prüfen].

Catalogue raisonné: Fernand Mourlot, Joan Miró. Lithographs, ref. Mourlot 612.

Unframed and unmounted. In good condition. No light staining but two small brownish stains in the lower right margin, outside the image, shown in detail in the photos.
Otherwise clean and fresh in colour.

Hand-signed “Miró” in pencil directly on the cloth, lower right. Pencil on the checked fabric is naturally faint; see detail photo. Stamp from Mourlot on the back.

Joan Miró (Barcelona 1893 – Palma de Mallorca 1983) was a Catalan painter, sculptor and printmaker. He was one of the central figures of twentieth-century modernism. Associated with the Surrealist circle in Paris from the 1920s, he developed a personal language of signs, stars, figures and pure colour that he pursued across painting, ceramics, sculpture and the graphic arts. From the late 1940s, printmaking became a major part of his practice. Working with Fernand Mourlot and later with the Maeght workshops, he produced more than a thousand lithographs and a large body of etchings. He repeatedly tested unconventional supports and techniques. His work is held by major museums worldwide, including the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Centre Pompidou, Paris, the Tate, London, and the Fundació Joan Miró in Barcelona, which he founded in 1975.
