海洋象牙の根付で、七福神の一人、寿老人（Jurojin 寿老人）を描いた置物。大きな儀式用巻物を持ち、座っている姿が表されています。
老人の顔は穏やかな表情を浮かべ、長く流れる髭と高い冠を特徴としています。
Jurojin（寿老人）は日本神話の七福神の一人で、長寿・知恵・繁栄と結びつけられています。
根付は、漢字の根（ne）＝「根」、付け（tsuke）＝「取り付けること」という意味の組み合わせからなる、小さな日本の彫刻で、元来は着物の帯（ obi 帯）に物を固定する留め具として使われてきました。19世紀後半にはヨーロッパとアメリカで非常に収集価値が高まり、題材の多様さ、細部の作り、 patina（パティーナ）、そして強い触感の魅力で称賛されました。
