PRODUCT TITLE
WWII Japanese Hinomaru Yosegaki Flag – “Bu’un Chōkyū” Good Luck Flag – Handwritten Military Send-Off Flag – Approx. 70 × 80 cm
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
An original Japanese Hinomaru yosegaki flag from the wartime period, covered with handwritten signatures, messages, and patriotic inscriptions.
At the top, the large calligraphy reads “Bu’un Chōkyū” (武運長久), a traditional phrase wishing for lasting good fortune in battle.
The flag also bears numerous handwritten names and messages from people who appear to have signed it as a send-off gift for a serviceman.
Large calligraphic inscriptions on the right side further emphasize its character as a wartime commemorative and military send-off item.
This type of signed Hinomaru flag was traditionally presented to departing soldiers and is now collected as an important historical document of wartime Japan.
The original writing, individual signatures, folds, and age-related wear give the piece a strong sense of period authenticity.
MAKER / HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
Yosegaki Hinomaru flags were commonly presented in Japan to servicemen departing for military duty.
Family members, friends, colleagues, and local community members would sign the national flag and add messages wishing for safety, courage, and success.
“Bu’un Chōkyū” was one of the most frequently used phrases and literally expresses a wish for enduring military fortune.
Because each flag was individually signed and inscribed, every surviving example is unique and represents a personal record of the people connected to the original recipient.
PRODUCT SIZE
Approx. 70 × 80 cm.
CONDITION
Vintage wartime condition.
The flag shows folds, wrinkles, discoloration, stains, ink fading, and other age-related wear consistent with its history and use.
Some fraying and wear may be present around the edges and corners.
Please refer carefully to the photographs for the detailed condition.
