Description from the seller
Titre:
Description:

Rare Pair of Fine Faience Cache-pots - Gien - Renaissance Style - France (1871-1875)
Description:
Exquisite pair of small cache-pots or decorative vessels from the famous Faïencerie de Gien (France), hand-painted with the iconic Italian Renaissance-inspired pattern. The central motif features a winged cherub flanked by polychrome foliage scrolls in blue, ochre, and yellow on a white background. Both pieces sit on their original wrought metal stands with scroll feet.
The underside of one piece retains the very rare historical printed backstamp of the three castle towers with the banner «GIEN», used exclusively between 1871 and 1875 (without the word "France"). The other piece bears the gilder/decorator's handwritten mark in gold («39» / «S9») and an antique inventory label.
• Condition: Excellent overall condition for their age. Beautiful natural crazing (crackling) inside the glaze and minor kiln imperfections typical of 19th-century earthenware, which guarantee its authenticity and handcrafted origin. No structural cracks, chips, or restorations.
• Value Justification (Estimate: 300 €): The price of this lot is fully justified by its strict dating to the 1870s (the manufactory's golden era), the rarity of finding matching pairs that retain their original wrought iron bases, and the vivid condition of the polychrome enamels, making them highly sought after in the international antique and interior design market.
