Sculpture, Nano Morgante (1) - Bronze - Second half 20th century

Beautiful and heavy high quality bronze after the Bacchino fountain or Fontanella del Nano Morgante ("Fountain of the dwarf Morgante"), entirely made of bronze over green marble, estimated period: second half of 20th century. Height 42 cm, weight approx. 13 kg. The Fontanella del Nano Morgante ("Fountain of the dwarf Morgante") is located in The Boboli Gardens, in Florence. The fountain was carved in 1560 by the sculptor Valerio Cioli and represents the dwarf Morgante (ironically nicknamed as the giant of the poem of the same name by Luigi Pulci), court dwarf of Cosimo I de' Medici, in all his full-bodied nudity astride a turtle, depicted as an intoxicated Bacchus (hence the name of the fountain). From the turtle's mouth comes a splash of water that runs into the marble tank below. Tracked and insured shipping.
