It is one of the most famous anti-nuclear movement posters of the pre-internet 1980s, "gone with the wind" from 1982 with Reagan & Thatcher. A classic from the anti-nuclear resistance movement during the Reagan era. A parody of the film poster of 1939 that promoted "Gone With The Wind". The version of the 1980s describes the former American President Ronald Reagan in the role of Rhett Butler and British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher plays the part of Scarlet O'Hara. In the goliardic representation of this poster is shown the most explosive love affair of all time (in fact there's a mushroom cloud in the background). The cast of the 80s remake includes illustrious names: Milton Friedman (member of President Reagan's economic policy Advisory Board), which in combination with Pentagon Productions presents "gone with the wind". Screenplay by Kid Joseph and Hank Kissinger (Secretary of State under Presidents Nixon and Ford), music by Eddy Heath. Also starring Jerry Falwell (fundamentalist Baptist Minister who founded moral majority in 1979), right-wing anti-feminist activist Phyllis Schlafly (who had the villainy of stating: "The atomic bomb is a wonderful gift that was given to our country by a wise God" [Boston Globe, 7/15/80]) and Cap/Caspar Weinberger (Secretary of defense under Reagan, 1981-1987). The satire of this poster is very refined, it represents the very special relationship between British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and President Ronald Reagan (Reagan is a former actor who replaces Clark Gable). The history of the Poster is also curious: it was originally designed in 1982 by the Socialist Workers Party in London (of which this poster is one of the original copies), and was later exported to Germany, the United States and the rest of the world. The ideological reasons underlying the satirical poster has put in place a different form of protest (obviously not violent), using art to mock politics (and exposing its lies). The world order in which we live, in fact, was born in 1979/1980, just with the Thatcher and Reagan, which was based on some premises/fundamental promises: 1) If the rich have more money, they will create more jobs; 2) lowering taxes (especially for the upper classes and rich) will lead to greater prosperity and equality for all classes; 3) increases in house prices and stock markets will increase prosperity and welfare for all; 4) commercial offers and globalization will do better at all. Now that these promises have really been accomplished, that the world is almost a paradise and the nuclear threat is only a bad memory of the past, this historic poster may retire by decorating and embellishing other walls.
