Beautiful relic of the uncorrupted Saint Catherine of Bologna. It also features a fine string in silver thread.
She was buried the same day in the bare earth, but after eighteen days she was exhumed intact and perfumed. After various vicissitudes, her body found a satisfactory place which it still preserves today: it’s located in her chapel, without any mask, in a sitting position, visible to everyone and unsealed (it’s currently protected by glass). At the top, above the chair, you can read the inscription: “Et gloria eius in te videbitur” (“In you [Catherine] we will see His [God’s] glory”). She was canonised by Pope Clement XI on 22 May 1712, holiday of the Holy Trinity, after a long and arduous process in which the convent and the city of Bologna were engaged and sometimes also in conflict.
Historian Francesco Cancellieri, in his “Notizie istoriche delle chiese di S. Maria in Iulia, di S. Giovanni Calibita” (1823), quoted the news reported by Teodoro Sprengero, according to whom the saint’s “hair and nails continued to grow”.
Sold as seen.
