The Kora (Cora Khora) is a sword-like cold weapon of the Ottoman type used throughout the Indian subcontinent, but mainly in Nepal. The blade is convex, sharp on the concave side, enlarged and slightly flared at the tip. The peculiarity of the silhouette gives it the name of “elephant ear” blade. The handle is one-and-a-half hand cylinder-shaped, with no decoration on the discs, entirely made of iron; the blade, long and strong, penetrates the handle and ends with a hemispherical element that acts as a block.
The Kora is often associated with the Ghurkas, the Nepalese soldiers recruited into the British army. Their reputation is known for military prowess, honour and scorn for danger. It is in a fair state of preservation, but needs cleaning.
Origin: private collection C.P. Mantua, Italy.
