The sculpture is in a frame that had to be re-gilt, the back has been protected by a plate which is not original, but the fasteners are of the period. The sculpture is fine and delicate, the details are precise and emphasise very powerfully the martyrdom of Christ; you can even see from his open mouth, the teeth of the upper jaw.
