Fritz Winter (born September 22, 1905 in Altenbögge Westf., † October 1, 1976 in Herrsching am Ammersee) was a German painter, one of the most important abstract artists of the post-war era counts.
Born as the 1h of 8 children in Altenbögge in 1919 he began an electrician apprenticeship at the Westphalia mine in Ahlen. He attended there in addition to his work as a miner the Realgymnasium. In 1924, Fritz Winter increasingly began to paint and draw. Nevertheless, he worked as a miner at night and attended the Realgymnasium in Ahlen during the day to study medicine. A first examination of the work of Paula Modersohn-Becker took place. In 1926 he met Vincent van Gogh on a trip to Holland.
