Second wine of Château Lafite Rosthschild. A rare wine and year for all collectors Carruades de Lafite-Rothschild 2016 is born from a vintage of striking contrasts. The summer was marked by drought. For two months, the vines had to endure significant water stress until the end of veraison. Longer than in 2015, this heat wave risked impacting maturation, when, to the great relief of the Barons de Rothschild estates, the rain finally fell on September 13. The weather remained hot and dry until the end of the red harvest, allowing them to reach perfect maturity. Carruades de Lafite-Rothschild 2016 comes from a blend of 44% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. The nose is very concentrated with notes of black fruits and tobacco. On the palate, this Pauillac is quite sappy (a Pauillac in the purest style) with fine-grained but slightly present tannins even if everything is well wrapped. We get a feeling of freshness and precision and we look forward to being able to appreciate it in a good decade. This is a classic and solid Carruades.
