The eMac is often the missing link in most Vintage Apple Collections. You can take this opportunity, and add this legendary collector's item to your own collection. The eMac, short for education Mac, is an ALL-IN-ONE "Macintosh desktop computer", made by Apple – and Released in 2002. The space-saving design originally aimed to the EDUcation market (as an improvement of the iMac G3). But this highly recommendable "workstation" soon became every Designer and Musician best friend. Why? Everything just snaps into place in this extremely powerful G4 PPC. Beside an all-in-one computer, the eMac is a BASE STATION for your iDevice, digital camera and camcorder. The eMac design closely resembles the first-generation iMac, though the eMac is white colored (thanx to design-wizard "Jony Ive") and slightly larger in size. The unique shape of the computer was also similar to the 17 inch CRT Studio Display from 2000 (the last standalone CRT monitor Apple made). It combines the iMac's all-in-one design with a 17-inch display. // NICEST SCREEN EVER The eMac has a G4 processor, a 17 inch CRT display with a diagonal of 43 cm with a flat front, built-in (great-sounding) speakers and various connections for peripherals. It as a simple design without the clutter of cables. The screen, though a CRT, is simply stunning. Increadible resolution, and the Quartz graphics and text rendering make this easily the nicest computer screen I've ever worked on. I wear eyeglasses, and even after "hours of working" my eyes never feel strained at all. Furthermore. The eMac offers so much screen space to work with. // WHY BID? WHY BUY FROM ME? ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST & BATTERY LEAKS On a technical level, this entire computer is "disassembled, cleaned, checked and assembled again". The computer has been cleaned inside & outside (dust-free). The keyboard and mouse have also been completely disassembled and professionally cleaned. See the dozen of pictures. – DUST: the inside of a 20-year-old computer looks the same as "the collection-container of a vacuum cleaner" (read: a dust bunny). And as you know "dust" can ruin your electronics; – LEAKS: 20-year-old batteries will someday leak, causing irreversible damage to the computer. The battery is removed and replace by a brand new battery. Long-Story Short. Computers from other vendors may look the same on the outside. I can guarantee you that the inside is very different! The video card provides stunning 2D and 3D graphics and video rendering - ideal for HD video content. And Leopard (10.5) really shows its stuff using Quartz Extreme. Therefore. This is also an excellent opportunity for the "Graphic Designer" and "Music" user. // MORE INFORMATION & FEATURES In terms of connectivity, the eMac's ports are located all in a neat little row along the right side – a fairly neat place to plug in. There is plenty of external connectivity: – three USB 2.0; – two FireWire 400 ports (essential if you want to work with modern equipment); – modem connection; – 10/100 Ethernet connection; – a video-out connector lets you hook up to an external VGA display; – for audio, you get a headphone jack and an input jack. // IMPORTANT NOTES – this eMac works as it should (extensively tested!). Moreover, the CD player works like a charm (in lots of old eMacs the CD doesn't function anymore). Speakers and USB connections also work perfectly; – the speaker system sounds heavenly; – the CRT screen is still crystal clear and razor sharp (no dead pixels); – the entire "interior" of the transparent plastic has been professionally cleaned so that it is dust-free and looks brand-new!; – the pram battery has been replaced – so that date, time and all other personal settings are preserved. PS/ be aware: the hard-disc and fan of this mac model makes more noice than comparable G4's. Don't bid on this item if a higher sound level botters you. FYI There are "normal signs of use" (which are to be expected with a device of this age). But as an experienced connoisseur I can guarantee that these items are "very good" condition! View the numerous images to make your own judgment! – There is one little minor flaw. There is a little bit of yellowing on the plastic (white) case (in front). This slightly yellowing color cast is difficult to capture on pictures. Please don't buy this eMac if you think a little bit of yellowing is a problem. – Although the DVD player functions "perfectly", sometimes the DVD cover no longer opens smoothly (so it needs a hand). I don't think this is a big issue. But I'll describe this minor issue for the sake of completeness. >> Last-but-not-last. On top of the screen, there is an inscription that reads: "UCR NL3512JC4". The inscription is tastefully done. What is the history of this inscription? Back-than "educational institutions" protected their expensive belongings using these kind of inscriptions. "UCR" stands for "Utrechts Centrum voor de Kunsten" (Utrecht's Centre of Arts). Utrecht is a city in the Netherlands. In my personal opinion this inscription adds to the "historical value" of the eMac. The computer weighs more than 24 kg (the package 30 kg).
