Jack Daniel's Silver Select Jack Daniel's is produced in America's oldest registered distillery. A whiskey with its own unique character and taste. The story goes back to 1866 when 17 year old Jack Daniel founded the distillery. Jack Daniel knew of a spring with excellent water just outside the small village of Lynchburg in central Tennessee. The water from this Cave Spring spring was cool, clear and free of impurities such as iron. This water is still the main component of Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey. A special Single Barrel bottle is the Silver Select. This whiskey is considered the best whiskey and for a long time also contained the highest percentage of alcohol (50%) that Jack Daniel's sold at 100 proof. In 2015, the Silver Select was discontinued and was renamed Single Barrel 100 Proof in early 2016. Nose: citrus, pepper and hints of crème brûlée, fried banana, caramel and cinnamon. Taste: bold and rich, slightly spicy, vanilla, custard and pine resin. Finish: long with notes of salted caramel and cedar wood.
