An industrial designer, Don Albinson, a Cranbrook associate of Charles and Ray Eames, Ralph Rapson, Harry Bertoia and Eero Saarinen, worked as a senior designer in the Eames office for 13 years before becoming design director of Knoll in 1964. He designed this model there. 1601 stackable side chairs.
He investigated the use of die-cast aluminum components with molded plastic seats and backrests. The result is a strikingly elegant chair that is comfortable and incredibly practical, incorporating materials and an industrial aesthetic.
