Biography. Lafuente trained as a senior architect at the Polytechnic University of Madrid and has a degree in Fine Arts from the Faculty of Pontevedra. He also has a master's degree in Contemporary Art and Artistic Creation. Among his awards are the Novos Valores of 2011 from the Museum of Pontevedra and the Eusebio Sempere Biennial as well as the Francesc Gimeno, both in 2014.
As the artist himself assures, his works are based on the geometric base, on work that combines rigor with sensitivity, focusing his interest "on the manipulation of limits, seeking new relationships between figure and background , trying to neutralize the differences between painting and sculpture through construction and pictorial systems."
Fernando Lafuente paints boards that he decomposes first to compose later
Articulated painting and the assembly of color planes allow him to organize his discoveries as an experimental method that ends up forming a result.
Fernando Lafuente paints boards that he first decomposes to later compose, according to a geometric conception of space. This process allows you to enrich the drawing and the limits of color, in addition to allowing the void to behave like another piece. The artist defines his paintings as "the plane in itself and the plane in the context; the assembly of planes; the painting without support, before and in itself as a work. Being part of the work and being a structure at the same time ".
For Lafuente, the conjugation of chromatic work and structural effort is important, the inclusion of the support as painting, ignoring the limit of the work and reaching the disappearance of the support itself. "In this way the work is sponged."
