Rare Vintage Kokeshi by Sansaku Sekiguchi - Pop Titled: 'Going to the mountains' - Japan
This is a rare kokeshi and she is titled 'Ikusanga'. Is an unusual design by one of the most famous kokeshi makers of all time: Sansaku Sekiguchi. It depicts a traveler going through the mountains.
Height: 15 cm
Sansaku Sekiguchi was born in 1925 and he is the only certified Master of Creative Kokeshi by the Japanese Government. He even has his own museum in Gunma. He won numerous awards including three times the prestigious Prime Minister Award! His kokeshi are amongst the most popular and sought after by collectors all over the world making them highly expensive. Sekiguchi-San passed away in 2018. His sons, Toa, Toshio and his daughter Izumi now also make kokeshi quite successfully winning many prizes at contests.
