Miyagikyo Single Malt Rum Wood Finish is a malt whiskey from the Miyagikyo distillery that has been stored in Caribbean rum barrels for up to 12 months before bottling. This is one of two limited editions of Nikka's 2017 single malt whisky – only 3,500 of each type were bottled, without the use of cold filtration. Miyagikyō, Nikka's second distillery, was built in 1969. Founder Masataka Taketsuru, the father of Japanese whiskey, chose its location in the mountains of Miyagi Prefecture, known for its clean air and the quality of its natural springs, so that it and the flavors of its whiskey could contrast with his first distillery, Yoichi, located on the coast.
