This lovely painting depicts a charming French countryside landscape at dusk on a sunny spring day. We can see blooming trees in the middle of the composition, whilst a fisherman is unloading his catch to bring home for the evening. In the distance the silhouette of a picturesque village is visible.
Eugène Galien-Laloue, born in 1854 in Paris, was a versatile artist known for his ability to depict various scenes beyond just cityscapes. While he gained fame for his Parisian street scenes, he also painted landscapes, rural scenes, and even military subjects. Galien-Laloue's importance lies in his mastery of capturing the essence and atmosphere of his subjects, whether urban or rural. He had a keen sense of observation and a remarkable talent for portraying the nuances of everyday life, regardless of the setting. The painting without frame measures ca 38 by 55 cms and with frame (offered as a gift to the buyer) ca. 48 by 65 cms. Good condition with two small repairs.
