The stadera is a scale of Etruscan origin whose operation is based on the principle of levers.
It consists of a lever with unequal arms and a fulcrum, which typically looks fixed.
The longer arm, which can bear one or more scales (usually 2), runs a burden said. on the shortest one you can fit a plate to hold the goods to be weighed, or a hook on which to hang the item to be weighed.
By sliding the weight down the ladder you reach a position of equilibrium in which the measuring arm is in a horizontal position.
From the position of the weight on the scale you can tell the weight of the desired object.
